Q & A: Get to Know Elaine Webley

We asked Elaine a few questions to find out what inspires her and understand the experiences that shaped her personal and professional growth. Here’s what she shared with us.

What inspired you to join the team at Sercante as a Vice President – UKI?

I was inspired by the people I met on the Sercante team. I’m a people person and loved the ease of conversations through the getting-to-know-you phase before coming aboard. I thought there was a great match between what I was looking for next in my career and from a company-culture perspective, in addition to how I like to work and what Sercante needed to grow its presence in the UK and Ireland.

Can you tell us something about your professional development journey?

I’ve cut an interesting path — coming from a media background initially, and then moving into the world of advertising and marketing agencies. I’ve grown through the client services and customer service streams working with a broad mix of B2C and B2B clients such as Estee Lauder, Krispie Kreme, American Express, Fujitsu, and PayPal.

I’m passionate about the customer experience for clients, understanding their challenges and direction of travel, and building a foundation for delivering on promises. I enjoy the process and have delivered some fantastic results (while having fun along the way). In recent years, I’ve focused more on operational excellence from a business perspective — growing high-performing teams to achieve good YOY company growth.

What have been the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Be a good listener. Check on the people you work with — ask them how they are. Make sure you save some time for fun. And always take notes.

What are you looking forward to in your new role as Vice President – UKI?

I’m absolutely thrilled to work with the Sercante team and grow our presence in the UK. I’ll be focused on bringing in talented people who will have a significant impact on company growth.

What industry changes or trends do you think will have the biggest impact?

I think it will be interesting to see how marketing budgets adapt to the changing priorities of the modern CMO — how martech can adapt to include the need and drive for AI that positively influences change and drives efficiencies at scale.

What initiative brought you pride in a previous role?

RNLI lifeboat charity — working with them on an award-winning campaign that raised money for building new lifeboats to save more lives at sea.

What makes you unique as a team leader?

I like to think I’m charmingly honest, and I’ll always bring the fun and can make what you think are big problems go away.

What methods do you use to stay motivated and focused?

I get energy from working with people and seeing them thrive in their roles. I’m also motivated by seeing clients genuinely love working with my teams and happy with the work we do.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy playing on a netball team (a bit like basketball — but less movement I guess…), cooking, eating, and spending time with my family.

What would your perfect weekend look like?

My perfect Friday night would be to stay in and eat good food. Saturday or Sunday morning, I’m probably taking the kids to a football or netball match they’re playing in, then maybe some retail therapy or going to see a movie. Sundays are about long dog walks and eating good comfort food.

What’s a cause that you are passionate about?

The Little Princess Trust is a charity that raises money for children who’ve been affected by cancer.

What have you read/watched/listened to lately?

Watching Bloodlines, Happy Valley. Reading Radical Candour by Kim Scott. And listening to a lot of Jesse Ware.
